The Atlantic Academic Union has scheduled a brief Annual General Meeting on September 2, 2026 at 12:00pm for the sole purpose of achieving quorum to put forward a vote to approve the proposed Operating Budget for 2026–2027. As some of you will recall, our AGM held in July did not meet quorum. In accordance with Article 4.5(g) of the Collective Agreement, the Executive Committee passed a motion to adopt an Emergency Operating Budget for a period of three months to ensure continuity of operations.
We are now required to reconvene the AGM to achieve quorum and conduct a vote for the approval of the proposed annual budget. This meeting will be short and focused, with one additional item of business: a proposed amendment to the AAU Bylaws. This amendment would allow future budget approvals to occur through a virtual vote separate from the AGM, with quorum established within the vote itself. The goal is to modernize our process, reduce barriers to participation, and ensure that essential financial decisions can be completed even when summer meetings face low attendance. A virtual vote will be held via Election Buddy for the approval of the Budget and the approval of the Bylaw Amendment. Voting links will be sent to your email as soon as the quorum at the AGM has been reached.
